Educational vegetable garden for the Epalinges crèche

Context and objective
In an urban environment where nature is in short supply, day-care centers struggle to offer toddlers direct contact with living things. And yet, children’s sensory awareness, motor development and natural curiosity depend on observation, touch and the discovery of biodiversity. Urban agriculture, with its specially adapted educational vegetable gardens, brings nature right into the heart of childcare facilities. Accessible from early childhood, it raises awareness of the seasons, vegetables, respect for living things and healthy eating. These mini-gardens create a strong link with the environment, even in the city. It is fully in line with the values of TotUP, which is committed to offering children the excellence of its services in a stimulating, natural and caring environment.
The solution implemented
From seed to plate program
We offer a service specially designed for day-care centers, combining professional vegetable garden maintenance with fun, sensory workshops for toddlers. Through “from seed to plate” activities, children discover nature’s cycles, the tastes of fresh vegetables and gardening techniques, gently and at their own pace. The aim is clear: to reconnect young citizens with nature and their food from an early age. This service is designed to relieve the burden on teaching staff, by ensuring regular monitoring of the vegetable garden. The result: well-maintained, abundant and, above all, never-abandoned containers, so that the kitchen garden remains a living place, a source of discovery and shared pride.
